Rothesay is based in Richmond, Virginia with the interior designers in this show house reflecting southern style. Tobi Fairley, a well-known interior designer from Little Rock, Arkansas, traveled to Richmond to showcase her design aesthetic in the stair hall of this home. I found it to be traditional with colors of blue and red that can be quite stimulating as well as soothing in the most modern way.

The red lantern chandelier and wall scones are designed by Ms. Fairley herself and fabricated by well-known artist, Julie Neill. Ms. Neill hails from New Orleans, bringing more southern style to this design house.

The lanterns lend a traditional style with red providing a bit of a modern twist.

I am taking quite a fancy to red and blue, having seen the results of Ms. Fairley's space. It is hard for me to imagine the possibilities without seeing examples, which is why I love to tour design homes.
The above photo features a custom secretary (which I highly covet) designed by Ms. Fairley herself. The rug is custom wool, also designed by Ms. Fairley and manufactured by New River Artisans. This design will debut at High Point in Spring 2011 with more custom furniture pieces to come in the near future. The Hyland wing chair is from Barclay Butera's collection.

The Greek key fabric, the mini print on the four ottomans and the stripe on the x-bench belong to the new Tobi Fairley fabric and wallpaper collection designed in collaboration with Given Campbell. I understand this line will be available in October. Also, the furnishings are Hickory Chair's James River collection. Apropos given the location of Rothesay, along the James River. The artwork in the above photo is by Scott Carroll.
Traditional artwork are given a modern vibe with red frames and I adore the Christopher Spitzmiller lamp, which I have come to know, thanks to Ms. Fairley.
I feel so fortunate to have had the experience of viewing Ms. Fairley's project in person, given that she is based in Arkansas. It is all the more reason to visit Rothesay, particularly if you are an admirer of Ms. Fairley and her design work.
There is more to come from this designer home.
